Executive Head of School

On a recent spring morning, while descending our school’s stairwell, I could hear our lower school students singing an uplifting rendition of “Here Comes the Sun.” I  stopped in my tracks and took in the moment. You can define a school in many ways, but the true measure of its power and success connects directly to the joy one experiences in every corner of its campus. I am truly fortunate to have a homebase at both our 70th St. and 52nd St. campuses so my joy is doubled!

Whether I am visiting a lower school art class or an upper school performance of Oliver, the same smile emerges. After decades serving in some of the finest schools across the country and internationally, there is indeed something unique here at SBS. It begins with our students who embody the declaration “At The School of the Blessed Sacrament, learning is not a spectator sport.” Every SBS student seeks to be a shining light of character and compassion. Through myriad service projects, daily assemblies, and countless other activities they live the values inherent in Catholic education.

The beating heart of SBS is our faculty and staff whose tireless and selfless efforts catapult the excitement of learning to the forefront. Daily, I have caught myself repeatedly exclaiming “WOW” during typical class visits, special events, musical and theater productions, and art exhibits. Our lower and upper school heads understand the critical importance of our mission to educate 21st century learners and create future leaders in an environment that is rooted in faith and strengthened by its community. Their leadership, vision, and actions serve to illuminate the path we take as a community. In addition, our families are true partners in this quest and their support, generosity, and dedication to SBS are evident in every interaction.

My work at SBS is both rooted in the present and far-reaching into the future. I am steadfast in serving to strengthen, sustain, and celebrate this community while honoring its storied 120 year history. I look forward to more “WOW” moments as SBS continues to grow and our students become the leaders and trailblazers of the present and future. I am always eager to hear from you and to welcome you to our community.

Onward,

Dean J. Fusto
