SBS/ SHJS Merger 2019
A New Chapter for SBS and a New Model for Catholic Education
This is an exciting time in our rich history. September 2019, marked the opening of our two-campus,
one-school model. The School of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacred Heart of Jesus have blended together to form one school, blessed with rich histories and traditions, a commitment to academic excellence, and strong core values. We are excited to enter this new chapter in Catholic education in the Archdiocese of New York, and are proud to stand on the shoulders of those who came before us both at SBS and SHJS.
The Lower School, located at 147 West 70th Street, serves student in PreK 3 through third grade. We are fortunate to have different types of spaces, such as a sensory gym, library and resource center where children can explore, learn, create and grow together. The Upper School, located at 456 West 52nd Street, serves students in 4th-8th grades. This space includes areas that facilitate dialogue and collaboration among older students. We are excited to have innovative learning spaces her such as a new state-of-the-art STEM center which will enable us to deepen our academic focus on individualized learning and meeting all students' needs.
The School of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacred Heart of Jesus School have each provided over a century of Catholic education to thousands of children. Celebrating diversity, strong ethical values, and a commitment to the development of individual academic potential, both schools aspire to educate and nurture the whole child.
Now, School of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacred Heart of Jesus are looking ahead to ensure a continued and secure future of educating students in the decades to come. This merger allows us the opportunity to capitalize on the individual strengths and combined advantages of both schools, and thereby offer enhanced opportunities to students and families, creating a model for success for Catholic schools in New York City and beyond.
In partnership with Katie Winter Architecture, and with a generous donation from The Barry Family Foundation we are reimagining learning spaces designed to serve students at every stage in their educational journeys.
