This week we begin round one of two weeks of New York State Tests for students in grades 3 - 8. At SBS we believe that students grow and learn through a challenging and rigorous program centered on Christian values and academic growth. Although we acknowledge the importance of the state tests, we are confident that our students are prepared to show what they know. I have no doubt that our students will rise to the challenges presented to them - via tests or life experiences!
Last Friday, our preK 3 students went on their annual nature walk. They saw plants, flowers, taxis, and trains. Seeing the world through a child's eyes is a truly special perspective. I hope this week you strive to see new perspectives - on the upper west side or wherever your week takes you!
Sincerely, Ms. Sliney
Parent Book Recommendation
Reading with your family at home is one of the best ways to spend time with your child. It is fun, it builds intimacy, sparks conversation, and pushes us to learn and grow together. Many times we receive questions and requests for book recommendations from parents. What should I read with my child when he/she asks about _____, or what book will help me explain_____? In What to Read When, Pam Allyn gives great insight into the best literature for children of all ages. Whether your child is fighting bath time, asking questions about death, or struggling with the arrival of a sibling, this is a great resource for parents. Although no book can be a roadmap (unfortunately!) this is a great addition to any parent's library. Enjoy!
