We have been reviewing this for the past two weeks and about half the class gets it while the other half is struggling. At this point, we must move on to other topics. We will have a quiz on long division Tuesday. To better prepare for the quiz, over the weekend I am asking that students complete Lesson 23 Homework. January 17-20 - Midterm Week!

ELA: Focus Skill- Making Connections
  • Midterm is Thursday the 19th. No study guide; just ensure that students are well-rested, have a healthy breakfast, and remind them of the importance of checking work, using complete sentences, using strategies from class, etc.
Math: Focus Skill- Division
  • Midterm is Tuesday the 18th. Study guide was provided at the beginning of last week and went over in class. It is cumulative; so anything we've covered thus far could come up. There is large focus on place value, multiplication, and division. Anything in their workbooks from Lessons 1-23 is subject to be assessed on the midterm.
Science: Focus Skill- Animal Life
  • Quizzes last week will be sent home to study from today for Midterm on Friday. Nothing new will be learned this week, rather reviewing materials in class for the test.
Religion: Focus Skill: Confirmation

Social Studies: no classwork
  • Midterm Thursday the 19th. No study guide; webquest of ancient civilizations and all information can be found within the pages online.
Homework for week: With Midterms this week, the typical homework will not be assigned. Please make sure that your children are doing the following each night:
  • Preparing for the next days exam
  • Reading for 30 minutes
  • Working on their interactive notebooks. The notebooks are due next week, the last week of the quarter. The schedule is: Science is due Monday, ELA due Tuesday, Math is due Wednesday. We work on these daily but often students fall behind. This is a very large percent of their final quarter grade so effort should be put forth.

When we practice multiples in class, I have noticed many of the students don't know their basic facts (i.e. 7X6=42). Please practice with your children (make it fun! use a deck of cards!) each night to make the division unit run more smoothly.
