Assignment
Week of January 23-27
- For homework posting, students should be focused on finding connections within their texts.
- Additional homework will be classwork that is not complete during class time.
- ATTENTION PARENTS: I am noticing a large amount of students that are not able to use long division fluently. We have been reviewing this for the past two weeks and about half the class gets it while the other half is struggling. At this point, we must move on to other topics. We will have a quiz on long division Tuesday. To better prepare for the quiz, over the weekend I am asking that students complete Lesson 23 Homework. If your child is still struggling with the division, please provide at home practice to better strengthen their understanding.
- Anticipated lesson schedule for next week:
- Monday- Practice with Lessons 19-23, particularly word problems that have been skipped.
- Tuesday- Topic F Quiz; begin Lesson 24 (Divide decimal dividends)
- Wednesday- Lesson 25 (Estimating Quotients), MATH INB DUE!

- Sunday begins Catholic Schools Week with a family Mass at 10am. Please be there!
Due:
Assignment
January 17-20 - Midterm Week!
- Midterm is Thursday the 19th. No study guide; just ensure that students are well-rested, have a healthy breakfast, and remind them of the importance of checking work, using complete sentences, using strategies from class, etc.
- Midterm is Tuesday the 18th. Study guide was provided at the beginning of last week and went over in class. It is cumulative; so anything we've covered thus far could come up. There is large focus on place value, multiplication, and division. Anything in their workbooks from Lessons 1-23 is subject to be assessed on the midterm.
- Quizzes last week will be sent home to study from today for Midterm on Friday. Nothing new will be learned this week, rather reviewing materials in class for the test.
- Midterm Thursday the 19th. No study guide; webquest of ancient civilizations and all information can be found within the pages online.
- Preparing for the next days exam
- Reading for 30 minutes
- Working on their interactive notebooks. The notebooks are due next week, the last week of the quarter. The schedule is: Science is due Monday, ELA due Tuesday, Math is due Wednesday. We work on these daily but often students fall behind. This is a very large percent of their final quarter grade so effort should be put forth.
Due:
Assignment
Week of January 9-13
- Students will be writing speeches in class to prepare for the Speech Bee at the end of the month.
- On post-its each night, students should be writing the point of view their book is written in, plus text evidence to support the point of view.
- As we move through the division unit, it is imperative that students are practicing their multiplication facts at home. When we practice multiples in class, I have noticed many of the students don't know their basic facts (i.e. 7X6=42). Please practice with your children (make it fun! use a deck of cards!) each night to make the division unit run more smoothly.
