Carissa Canovas, Head of Lower School

Ms. Canovas joined the School of the Blessed Sacrament in August 2020. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Childhood and Special Education and Master’s Degrees in Literacy Education and School Administration.  In addition to the areas listed above, she also holds certifications in Early Childhood Education and District Leadership. 

Prior to joining SBS, Ms. Canovas was the Head of School at York Avenue Preschool.  She has over 10 years of experience in private schools in NYC as an administrator, Associate Director of Admissions, and classroom teacher. Having attended catholic elementary school herself, Ms. Canovas is thrilled to be a part of the Blessed Sacrament community.

Megan Gonzalez, Head of The Barry Upper School

For Ms. Gonzalez, Blessed Sacrament has always been a special place for her and her family. Prior to coming to SBS, she graduated from Wagner College and began teaching at Holy Name School for three years in both 4th and 5th grades. She has been a member of the Blessed Sacrament community for the past eight years, starting as a teacher and transitioning to the Head of Upper School in 2018.

During those years she has played an integral role in building the middle school program. With her help and leadership we have transitioned from a self contained classroom program to a departmentalized academic program that supports the social emotional development of all children. She has developed a catalog of enrichment programs while establishing an elective program. She looks forward to continuing to build the upper school program as SBS grows and expands while being on the forefront of innovative catholic education.
