Unit 10 Elementa Packet 

There will be a test on Wednesday, March 11th on Units 8 and (part of 9). All vocabulary from previous units should also be memorized. Attached you will find the packets for Unit 8 and 9. 

On Wednesday, you will have your first translation quiz! You will be asked to translate some of the sentences we have been working on in class on the board. You will be expected to know the vocabulary from these sentences, too, in order to translate correctly. You have these sentences in your notes, but I will also hand out a sheet for you to review on Monday. 

Attached is the review for the Latin Midterm. Note Date change: Tuesday, January 28th. We will be reviewing this in class over the next week and Monday. 

The Midterm for Latin will be on Thursday, January 23rd. Study guides will be handed out on Monday, January 13th.

Attached are two documents: the first is the Roman Political History overview reading and the second is the discussion question sheet that goes with the reading. For 7th and 8th Grade, complete both packets. For 6th Grade, complete until Question 12. 

This announcement is just to flag that there will be a test on Units 4-6 on Wednesday December 18th. All vocabulary words should be memorized and familiarity with the history portions of the units, as well as the mythology portions, too. More information and study guides to come this week.

Just as a reminder: the infinitive verb in Latin ends in "-re" and is the second verb listed in the pairs of vocabulary (e.g., "pugno, pugnare;" "fugio, fugere;" "timeo, timere") 

EXTAR CREDIT! Attached is the assignment instructions for the extra-credit for the 2nd quarter. Due on November 12th-- hard-copy in class OR email to [email protected]. 

Units 1-3 TEST. On Wednesday October 23rd, we will have a test that covers the material in units 1-3. There will be more to follow, but the exam will have three parts: 

 

1.) Latin Vocabulary 

 

2.) Reading Comprehension questions from (Roman history in Unit 1, Romulus and Remus story in Unit 2, and Ceres and Proserpina in Unit 3) 

 

3.) English Derivatives 

 

I will be handing out review packets tomorrow in class.

Help with English Derivatives we had gone over in class on Monday: 

Prevalent: vale, widespread or frequent 

Malady: male, illness or bad disease 

Annihilate:  nihil, destroy to nothing 

Misnomer: nomen, an inaccurate or wrong name

Grateful: gratias, thankful 

 

Sorority: soror, sisterhood 

Patriarch: pater, male leader

Puerile: puer, boyish or immature

Interregnum: rex, period between kings

Lupine: lupus, wolf-like 

 

Aqueduct: Aqua, channel that leads water 

Pescatarian: piscis, a person who eats fish but not meat

Carnivore: caro/carnem, a person who eats meat 

Egotistical: ego, a person who only thinks about themselves 

Edible: edo, something that can be eaten 

Homework Project:

Each student was given a god or goddess to research. Broadly speaking, write 3 paragraphs about that god/goddess. This can include biography, stories, how the god/goddess is used today in literature or film. These paragraphs are to be (1) typed, (2) include graphics of the god/goddess. 

The attachment is Unit 1 of the textbook Elementa. Students will have received this in packet form, but it is also here for electronic convenience. (Nota Bene: This is not an assignment, but the reading that we will be doing in class for the next couple weeks.
